Valentine's Day Meals

Why not change it up this year and spend Valentine's Day indoors cooking for or with the one person who matters most-the one you love!

The one day of the year when overpriced roses and romantic set menus is acceptable is fast approaching. Valentine’s day has been the bane of all men and the answered prayer of all women, florists and restaurants out there. In reality, Valentine’s Day has become as romantic as waiting for a doctor’s appointment. Why not change it up this year and spend Valentine’s Day indoors cooking for or with the one person who matters most-the one you love! There are many great ideas for romantic Valentine’s Day meals.

Here are a few tips:

  • Wine is always a good idea- Even if you don’t usually drink much, a special bottle of red over your steak dinner or even a bottle of dessert wine to go with your after dinner sweets will be a welcome gesture from you to your partner.

  • Think of a menu you can make together- If one of you is allergic to anything kitchen related and the other is an amateur chef, find your middle ground and make something fun and interesting but not too hard for the culinary challenged. For instance, have your kitchen averted partner toss the salad while you make the pasta sauce, or have him or her mix the sangria while you chop, slice and sauté away.

  • Create the perfect soundtrack- Aside from food and company, mood music is really important when you want to have the best dinner experience. Make a playlist of both you and your partner’s favorite tracks and add a few wildcards for a little extra oomph.

  • For a healthy twist, find yummy recipes that involve baking (like chicken) or poaching (fish), a colorful salad and a fruity dessert. A bit of dark chocolate is sexy and won’t hurt your diet at all.

  • Include cuddle time on your agenda- After slaving away in the kitchen and scarfing down all the yummy food, make sure to allot a little time on the couch with your favorite movie and some home made hot chocolate.
