i havent played badminton for years now.... its a good exercise for weight loss.... carlton is a good brand... you can buy the beginners model then have the strings changed with the tension appropriate to you.  you can ask in the sports store.... i have to racket with different tension both carlton.....

I used to play badminton regularly when I was still living in Cavite but stopped like 3 years due to personal problems...now this year, our company offered different wellness program to employees and I joined the badminton clinic held at the Army Gym in Fort Bonifacio.  It was a 10 session of intensive training from warm up, footwork, different positions like hitting the shuttle cock thru drop shot, side swing and v-back.  I learned a lot and since I have played before i got this intensive training it wasn't easy to unlearn what I already knew playing the game.  Nevertheless, I was also able to appreciate more badminton because it really makes one sweat a lot even playing for like 15 minutes of double games.

We even had a mini tournament and my partner and I won our category and it was a real glorious moment ahwwww!!!!  Now I play every chance I get Saturdays at the Metro Badminton in Pioneer with my co-trainees.  Lastly, I am still not that good but I play better than a beginner...

Anybody in this group who wants to play Saturday morning????

Hi all!

I'm rather late in commenting to this forum on badminton coz i just signed up at belle.  Anyway, badminton is really a great way to lose weight becoz you don't even think you're trying so hard to lose!  It's all fun, fun, fun!! I am actually so excited to go back to the courts.  The last time I played was I think August '08, before i found out i was pregnant.  Now that i've given birth, I'm still not allowed to do rigorous exercise due to my c-section.

I have been playing for about 4 years and each time I play, I learn new techniques.  I have also joined some friendly tournaments in Davao city but I have yet to acquire a major award to really be considered a "player."

Using a lightweight racket like the Chaopai brand is wrist-friendly especially to women.

I think my yonex shoes needs a replacement when I go back to playing.  It has seen better days and deserves to rest hehehe

I haven't played badminton in nearly a year and a half now, but I'm looking forward to resuming this weekend, by playing with my family. They are so going DOWN.

@ cinderella27: What are the floors on the courts that you mentioned? Makati courts are rather expensive, so I'm thinking about heading down South every once in a while. 85 pesos for play-all-you-can sounds like a great deal!

@ natz32475: I agree with the stretching. It makes a difference with endurance, fatigue, and flexibility while playing.

@ cris: My brother has a Carlton racket; it's pretty good too. ^_^ Errr...haha, I hope the smoking doesn't wind you and your boy down.

I also have a few scoring techniques up my sleeve, but I'm keeping them close to my chest, in case we have a company badminton tournament.

hi erin i play badminton with my boyfriend and my friends we were able to buy badminton shoes at badminton hub in greenbelt for a buy one take one deal it costs 2'500 only and the rachet we were able to slash out 800 pesos off the normal proce at toby's when they had this promo last year where you give them your ols rackets in exchange for the 800 peso discount not sure though if they still have that promo but they might still have sales, anyway we play in sucat, flick it is located at valley 2 sometimes we play in starmall in alabang formerly metropolis although the court is really not well maintained but the 50 pesos play all you can rate will however make up for that (weekday though 8-4pm) i agree with natz suggestion abvout the shoes be sure to bring extra shirt and water also wear nice comfortable socks also take good care of your feet hehe mby the way the best looking place we've been at is in sta. rosa laguna just after enchanted kingdom called winner the rate nbow is 85 pesos play all you want anyday anytime see you at the court!!

I'd play badminton with my family, but since my dad got injured, we haven't played in a year! I kind of miss playing already, even if I wasn't exactly the best player. We've been playing for about 4 years now, not counting the last year that we've been all dormant.

My racket is a Kimoni from Badminton Hub, which I got for 3k. (My dad paid for it...I was also after the lightness...the lighter rackets unfortunately cost more.) I got Nike gumsoles at Market Market for a little over 2k, if I remember correctly. Prior to that, I got Filas on sale, but they broke down within a year. So, I think it's better to shell out just a bit more for better quality stuff.

You're in the Makati area, right, Erin? My favorite courts are Power Smash at Pasong Tamo and Ultimate Impact at Yakal St.

Hi erin, i've been playing badminton for almost 5 years now.  Usually i play 4-5 times a week but lately i haven't been playing that much because of my job.

places that you can buy good shoes and rackets are tobys or badminton hub.  If you're just a beginner, you could buy those rackets that ranges from 1k to 2k.  For professionals, they could even afford buying the 4k up rackets.  Usually most players prefer yonex rackets but personally i use prince rackets.  For shoes, most players use mizuno, but you could also check out the yonex and asics brand.  Again choose what's most comfortable to you, and preferably choose 1/2 inch bigger  size so you have allowance for your foot when you lunge to get a low ball during your badminton games.  Thay way you won't hurt your toes.

natz
