Mountaineering, anyone?

Hey, is anybody here into mountaineering? I feel that an alternative to the daily 20 minutes walking exercise, you can lose weight and enjoy nature with one day hike.

Hiking sounds like a lot of fun! I've hiked Mt Makiling and Sierra Madre, and also another mountain (I forgot what its called) in Baler, Aurora. What are the more popular groups nowadays? |

I have a group named Dawn to Dusk. We are from Baguio and Benguet. Almost every weekend, we climb or hike a mountain. It was all worth the effort...the cool air, the scenic views and the camaraderie that comes with it. I love it! |

hi! i love mountain climbing....and i've been to Mt. Famy 3 times already! but i haven't done it for a long time! :-( my last climb was with my bff adelfa and my bf then Cromwell (who is now my hubby!) i wish i could go back to those times where you could easily pack a bag and leave responsibilities behind...but now with kids? sigh! i think its gonna be a long time coming....maybe when my kids are all grown up already and could hike on their own without bugging us, the parents, to carry them coz "they're tired & their feet hurt"...hehe....but then again, i may be ancient by then, and i would be the one bugging my kids to carry me coz arthritis will be taking its toll on me by then...hahaha! i wanna try tanya's suggestion, the 30-minute hike in Mt. Pinatubo....hmmm, maybe that one, i can do very soon....thanks y'all! |

I hear that Mt. Pinatubo is a good choice as it has both beginner and advanced trails. It's an easy climb for the beginner trail and it only takes 30 minutes (at least that's what the tour guide told me). The advanced trail is more intense and hardcore and takes several hours to get to the top. You'll experience quite a few difficult areas to get past too. A friend of mine went on this tour and he says that once you reach the top, the view is breathtaking and worth all the effort. It's a popular tourist spot with kayaking, swimming and other activities available to visitor. If you want to know more about the Pinatubo treks, you can check out this website: http://pinatubotrek.blogspot.com/ |

hi girls, if you're from southern tagalog like me, the easiest would be Mt. Makiling by way of UP Los Baños. They say it's level 2 ("intermediate") but we just go there for day hike and good for practice if you're planning on major climbs. 8-10 hours of hike (ascend and descend) depending on how fast you can walk. There are a lot of mountains here in Batangas, Cavite and Laguna - Mt. Batulao (Laguna), Mt. Pico de Loro (Cavite), Mt. Malepunyo, Mt. Manabo (both near Lipa), Mt. Maculot (Cuenca, Batangas) Mt. Gulugod Baboy (near Anilao) (not sure about their levels, maybe level 1 or 2). For fun climbs and waterfalls, you can go to Mt. Famy in Siniloan, Laguna. The tough ones include Mt. Banahaw but I'm not sure if it is now open for climbing as it was previously closed. Me, personally, I do not intend to join any mountaineering group. I just hike with friends whenever we have the time and money. thank you for your responses. hope to hear from you again. :)
