Gym or At home?

posted by KarenFrancis on 02-08-2010 à 02:59

What's better? Working out at the Gym or at home?

The upside about the gym is that they have the equipment. Downside: people  hog the equipment and people watch you train (eeew, especially with those aerobics classes where there's a full window exposing you!) I guess it's SUPPOSED to make you conscious and being uncomfortable is just part of it, i guess. (sorry guys, i'm a TERRIBLE dancer)

Home. Upside: it's free, you can do it any time. Privacy. Downside: no space or equipment

what do you guys think?

I use to go to the gym but, I don't have the time anymore and the membership is a bit too pricey for me now:( So, I've been exercising at home now. I plan to buy a stationary bike soon!

Why not do a combination of both? Alternate your workout days with home and gym. You could do your weights and cardio at the gym and do extra cardio at home.. the combinations are limitless!

home.. coz i can do it anytime im free. No worries about my outfit. No monthly fees. i can save travelling expenses. Even if i had no equipments, I still believed that we can still lose weight by trying different work outs that needs no equipment. Like hip hop abs dancing- I love it! you tone ur muscle, doing cardio, flatten ur abs while having fun..its a no boring exercise indeed.

I am more motivated to workout in a gym. Like tanyanicole said I have gym mates aged 40=50 up and they are more tone and fit compare to me! Plus they all look like less 20 years ! I was really impressed!

The hardest part was to enter the gym. I am bit shy and insecure for the 1st 5 days. But after that, I feel at home the 2nd week. :) I am no longer shy working with strangers! The fact is that I am more shy when my parents see me workout. haha!

I workout at the gym 5 times a week and 2 times a week at home. DVD workouts like beach body home workouts is a big help! I love intense workouts!

I could never agree more to what you've said about the hectic work schedule. I also feel exhausted at the end of the day to go to the gym but I just need to drag myself there. Unfortunately, our gym here does not offer the use of the sauna everyday  but who cares... anyway the gym is free for the company's employees .

I wish I have a strong motivation to work out from home. I find it hard to exercise from home because it's to tempting to just relax and watch TV or check updates on FB . It's summer here and it' quite hot and humid outside - not idea for the brisk walking or jogging. Afternoon temperature ranges from 40 to 45 degree celsius

I notice some typo * to - too and *it'- it's

i used to go to Golds Gym in Alabang. But i was never motivated to regularly attend my sessions. Maybe because of so hectic work schedules and I am already tired once I arrived at the gym.

I just get excited when I think of the sauna there. :)

---------

though i choose to work out at home. its more flexi. i can also run outside :D

I used to like working out at the gym and was a member of Fitness First a few years back. But the commute and operating hours of the gym didn't work well with me, plus it hind sight it's very expensive.

Nowadays, I go jogging around a nearby park and do my floor exercies and weight training at home (when I actually get around to doing it.) Our building also has a pool where I used to do lap exercises.

I'm currently searching for affodable dance classes near my place. I used to do ballet and I miss getting compliments for my posture and form. Meh.

for me at home is good,,, having that private time and you can fully concentrate on it when your at home after doing all the household chores.you can have a lot of time for doing it.and nobody will pressure you unlike when your on gym, time and money to spend...

i love to work out in the gym but time and distance makes it impossible for me so home is manageable and am able to do it at the best time for me... which is just before sleeping

Since we have space at home, I workout at home whenever we have not wellness program ongoing at work.  I am very disciplined in whatever I do and even my SO is surprised at the kind of willpower I have in working out.  On weekends upon waking up, the first thing I asked him is what we are going to do in our workout for the day.  Sundays are our big yoga day because we are doing the power90X yoga which is an hour and half of different poses down to yoga belly stuff and cool down.

In addition, even if I am just working out at home I dress up the way I would when I workout at work during our wellness program.  In that case, I still feel motivated and keep my goal of being physically active and responsible for my overall health and well being.

I'd rather work out at the gym...it really keeps me motivated, but I've had to cancel my gym membership because I'm watching my budget more closely. My first gym membership was at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center, and even if it's open to the general public, it's still rather "private" because not too many people know that this is the case, since the gym is inside the Ateneo campus.

I've been working out at home again, and it's already been a year, and I'm just fortunate I already have the discipline to keep at it regularly. Lack of motivation is my biggest enemy, but it's already engrained in me that I have to exercise regularly.

I lost about 20 lbs just working out at home, but it really takes a lot of willpower and discipline.
