Irregular Period

posted by cionsalibay on 25-06-2011 à 11:27

Hello to All,

I just want to ask baka somebody here has the same problem with mine and can help me. I am married for 6 months, and we are really hoping na magkababy. I am obese (87 kg), and kaso my period is not normal and irregular. My last period was last March, and hindi naman ako buntis. The last time I went for OB, she diagnosed me with PCOS, and she gave me Provera and metformin, and my period was there, but when I stopped taking it, wala na naman ang period ko. I am reluctant to take it medications again, kasi ayaw kong maging dependent. I hope somebody can advise on me.

THank you very much.

Cion

Hello, ladies!

To start, let me just tell you that I'm not an OB-Gyn, just a general practitioner doctor. But as a doctor, I'd like you to please please please not stop any medication your physician without either their approval or a second opinion from another doctor first. Stopping medications abruptly can be even more detrimental to your health or your goal to have regular cycles and/or to have a baby. All medications have adverse effects and you should consult your doctor again (or, like I said, get a second opinion) if you'd prefer not to continue that particular class/brand of drug because of the side effects.

I have a cousin with the same problem: PCOS. We're pretty close, so I have an idea what you must be going through. She's never been overweight, but since college, she's been having irregular period (upto half a year without menses!) and at first, she was prescribed with oral contraceptive pills just to make her period regular. Once she was married and ready to have kids, her OBGyn, who was luckily also a fertility specialist, started her on metformin . She and her husband also tried several times to induce her ovulation with medication (forgive me if I don't reveal what that drug is here because I don't want anyone self-medicating without a doctor's prescription) and in vitro fertilization. No luck for them so far on the baby scene but they're not giving up on the quest any time soon.

If you and your husband are of the same mind to have that baby soon, you may want to ask your Obstetrician-Gynecologist for a referral to a fertility specialist, if he or she isn't one.  Please keep in mind that fertility treatments take time and money and you should be 100% committed to that goal and be 100% committed as a couple.

I am also obese at 175lbs.  My Ob gave me birth control pills pro di ko sya kinaya because of the side effects. A pharmacist friend of mine gave me low dosage pills, i took it daily without skipping and naging regular naman menstruation ko. Sabi nila if you want to get pregnant, you may intentionally stop taking the pill. More chances of getting pregnant pero syempre proper timing like your ovulation period or pag fertile ka. You may ask your Ob about birthcontrol pills na pwede maging hiyang syo. If you prefer not to take medications, reducing weight and avoiding foods with high sugar. Baby dust to you!!

i also obese and have irregular period since high school.  i also consulted an OB and he gave a pill that will make my period regular but when i consulted another OB he said that i should not take the pill that my previous OB gave me because i am still young. So i stop taking the pills and made my period still irregular. During college, i took an aerobic dancing as my p.e subject. and i noticed that my period is coming every month, pero nung ntapos n ung p.e subject ko and i don't regularly excercise naging irregular nnman ang period ko. Kaya i think one of the ways pra maging regular ung period is to have a regular exercise.. in addition, i also have a friend with an irregular period and she also  takes pills but may side effects s kanya ung pills. namaga ung legs nia kc lumapot daw ung blood nia because of the pills. and sobrang hirap siang maglakad. still exercise is one of the easiest way and the safest way pra maging regular ang peiod ntin..
