Diabetes

My family has a history of diabetes, so I'm taking measures now to prevent it, by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
My Lola has had the disease for over 30 years now, but she still falls into her bad habits from time to time, thus landing her in the hospital a lot. She even eats more (especially high GI foods) than I do.
Who else may have diabetes, or a family history of the disease? I hope you're coping well with it.

My lola and mother have diabetes so I am prone to have it as well. So, I'm doing what I can to prevent it. My lola recommended drinking Ampalaya tea but I really don't like the taste. My mom told me to take her pills but they gave me headaches. So, I decided to take supplements instead. I'm taking a!life Trim because it contains both Amaplaya and Banaba. I haven't had a med check-up yet but I hope it truns out well:) |

For those living in Metro Manila (especially for the "southerners" like myself), I'd like to share something: Asian Hospital and Medical Center located at Civic Drive, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa has a regular forum for diabetics organized by the hospital's Diabetes support group called Sugar Buddies. Most of these are free-admission fora. You may pre-register (which is always better) or just walk-in. The next one will be on Saturday, 02 July 2011, entitled "Eat right and be alright". You are all invited to attend and have fun! I've attached a photo of the flyer here which includes contact details if you intend to pre-register. |

i am diabetic...but so far i am able to control it by regularly taking my meds and visiting my doctor regularly...i check my glucose level 2x a day that is 15mins before i take and eat my breakfast and 15 minutes before i take my meds and eat dinner...but since i started working in the BPO industry my schedule is no longer normal...i only eat 1 meal a day since i'd rather sleep than eat thus wreaking havoc on my glucose level =( |

Oh man. I also went through that apple cider phase. I gave up after a few days, because I couldn't take it, not even if I'd hold my nose. I've found that the best way to curb sweet cravings...is to eat less sweets. Easier said than done, of course, but I've adapted eventually. |

My dad was a diabetic. He died of diabetes, rest his soul. He had the disease when he was only 55 years old. Lasted for 13 years with the disease -- and to think that he was a physician... But he really was overweight... I hope I'm not following his footsteps. I've really been trying to lose weight but have been unsuccessful so far. It really is difficult to lose weight when one is in his/her 40s. |

well I don't have it but base on my Chinese doctor I'm almost there if I won't stop my sugar intake... I really don't like to believe it at times since my blood check came out normal with sugar level but sometimes I just have to rethink.. bec. sometimes I tend to get bruises a lot which we can't find out why plus... most of his patient is diabetic or are almost there also.... he said that is due to the eating lifestyle of us Filipinos here... like most after meal of like on every meal they have to have softdrinks... love chocolates, cakes, or anything that is sweet, plus when you go to food choices or most restaurants in Philippines most drinks or sweet foods are really served as too sweet that we sometimes had to add more water :) My inlaw had allergy it's due to 1 time she had an over all annual check up in St. lukes I think but bec. of the chekcing equiptment is not clean she got an infection, thus she was forced to drink a lot of antibiotic thus cause the itching allery in her skin... also and the chinese doctor said the only way to be cured is to really stay away from sweets also... at first she won't believe also, but she later realize that everytime she eat too much sweets she start getting itchyu, so she tried to buy sugar free bread, icecream, chocolate you name it... and she don't eat fruits like mango, that's too sweet, most of the fruit she ate are Pomelo - helps with digestion, dragon fruit - not too sweet and is really good for diabetic people, "balingbing" - she said are good for the throat. when we cook homemade turon or bananaq she would ask us not to put any sugar.. :) |
