Feelin' down...?

posted by RN9 on 18-09-2009 à 04:37

Hey, young adults!

Did you know that running can help you get rid of the symptoms of  depression faster than  psychotherapy?

In one research conducted , young adult patients complaining about depression were prescribed to go out and run three times a week for half an hour instead of going to traditional therapy. After 10 weeks, 6 out of 10 patients recovered fully from their depression without discussing their problem with a therapist!

So, if you’re down...try revving up!!!       RN9

Oh I''ve had depression for a year after failing one of my college subjects. But after enrolling in a gym and going there at least 3x a week, now, I am a very lively and active person. In fact, I''m very happy hanging out with more friends and most of them are athletic. Running, just like any exercise, provides you more energy so when every succeeding day that you wake up, you feel like you always wanna move. This, in turn, helps you interact with more people because it compells you to stay out of the house and meet other people. Staying with a psychotherapist will actually just make an emphasis in your mind that you really are experiencing depression, when supposedly we should be trying to remove that thought. When I have a problem, I try to not overthink and just try to do something else to forget it for a while and later solve it when I don''t feel so down anymore.

Yes, I agree with all the benifits we can get out of running...so let's run the healthy way...but if you really got a hard time running due to some physical reasons, you can do brisk walking instead. Try it...

that's so true! well also because adolescents and young adults generally have more hormones going crazy inside them so we do become prone to depression. exercising or just going out and getting active is a great way to relieve us from our worries

Running is a form of cardiovascular excercie that promotes the release of happy hormones called "endorphines" that's why it makes you feel happier afterwards.

But you know even just trying to be positive in your outlook in life could create a change in you. Always try to look at the brighter side of life and be grateful for God's blessings... Life is a choice and so is being happy :-)

absolutely right... running can stress you down because the sweat and body works.. it makes your mind and relax and feel good by sweating it out the bad day and the toxin in our body...

This maybe true.Yesterday,I had a terrible headache & was tempted to ;pop in a Tylenol 500mg.I decided to put on my running shoes early PM(upon coming home) thru the cool air for 1hr.After,I took a cold bath & viola,I'm cured.

Many times,we rush to take meds but really,it's just exercise.

I like this! I've recently started running, and, yes, I guess the physical act of running away from something can also help with one's mental state. =) There's a sense of fulfillment and liberation after a good run! It also allows me some time for myself, when I need to get away from it all.
